This is a lesson learned painfully and several times over.
Save yourself the angst
Every job order you take is ‘perishable’.
The definition of ‘perishable‘ is this.
Every minute an order stays open, unfilled, it is more likely you will not fill it.
That is a golden law of recruiting.
You know the millions of bizarre reasons that jobs get filled by someone or something other than you, right?
They get filled by another agency. They get filled because suddenly somebody internal applied for it. Or the client’s sister came back from Peru, and he hired her. Or the CEO set a hiring freeze just that afternoon.

Urgency and focus are the lessons
Process, accuracy and attention to detail are non-negotiable. I am not saying ‘fast and sloppy’.
I am saying ‘urgent and excellent’.
Every minute you spend allowing a job to stay open, no matter how ‘exclusive’ it is, or what the client has told you, it’s less likely you will fill it
An open order should burn into your recruiting soul. Make you squirm. Cause a bead of sweat to trickle from your brow.
Till it’s filled. Then it’s OK to chill
Except, you have another open order, don’t you?
