Are you an ‘AI Tourist’ or ‘AI Traveller’?
Yes, I hear you.
Another AI blog and we just cannot take it, right?
But hold on…
This article is not about AI.
It’s about you. And me
‘Tourist’ or ‘traveller’ are modes of seeing the world.
And this is a metaphor to shine a light on how you explore the AI world.
Are you just a ‘tourist’?
Or are you a serious traveller, with a clear destination in mind?

AI Tourists
Most recruitment business owners are ‘AI tourists’ in my view. They are ‘keen’ to see the ‘new world’. They want to understand it. But they are not really that enthusiastic about ‘doing the work’. They put themselves in the hands of ‘guides’, as tourists do in Rome. They follow someone else’s plan, and often they spend money unwisely because someone else suggested it. (Ever been to the restaurant in Rome that your ‘guide’ recommended?) Like all tourists, they move at a slow pace and have no real plan that they drive. That is not the way to maximise the AI and automation that swamps our industry!
AL Travellers
As a recruitment leader, or indeed an ordinary recruiter keen to thrive in a new world, you must be an ‘AI Traveller’. You have a clear destination, and you move with intent. Like smart travellers, you learn enough of the local language to make yourself understood and understand your surroundings. That is key in the new world of ‘AI’. What does it all mean? What are cliches and AI washing, and what has real substance? An “AI Traveller” is alert and nimble, prepared to change direction, shift course, or even stand still when required. And the traveller seeks a return on money spent.
I know I have really milked this metaphor. But I like how it translates.
Tourists and Travellers can both say they ‘going somewhere’, but who is really going to find the destination?
Be an AI traveller.
Clear plan. Clear destination. Strict budget. Never fooled.
