Is your database a ‘candidate graveyard?’

This is one of the most significant dysfunctions in agency recruitment.

And has been for years.

Here it is;

Where a recruitment agency fills a job order, and the successful candidate is sourced from a job board or LinkedIn, in at least 50% of cases, that candidate was already in that recruitment agency’s database. 

Do you grasp the magnitude of that farcical inefficiency?

  • The ATS/CRM is out of date
  • Recruiters do not code candidates at the start
  • There are no updates or ‘data refresh.’
  • Recruiter don’t know how to search their database
  • Leaders don’t train their recruiters on database use
  • Managers do not hold people accountable for database maintenance
  • Recruiters default to ‘run an ad‘ because it is a habit and it ‘keeps them busy’.

So, the candidate is right there, interviewed, assessed, and ready to move forward, but recruiters often ignore that. Instead, they run an Ad (at a significant cost), get flooded with irrelevant resumes, and eventually find one suitable candidate after many hours of work—and s/he was already known to them!

Yes, you are proud of your database of 100,000 senior financial candidates, but most of them are ‘dead‘. Well, dead to you because you can’t find them, and you do not know their status

Your precious resource is left to rot! It’s a candidate graveyard!

It is tragi-comic how much recruiters spend on candidate acquisition and how much time is spent on assessing applications when the perfect candidate was ‘theirs‘ already!

Thanks for sharing this Greg. It's frustrating that the industry continues to treat its greatest asset (their candidates) as second class citizens. Knowing who is looking, what they are looking for, where they will go and how much money they want is the key to making placements and making money.
