What is the ROI on AI?

I had a fascinating meeting with Kris Cleland, the CEO of RecruitmentX, recently

Kris explained to me that when he first joined RecruitmentX, he stress-tested their AI assistant by feeding it 1,000 resumes. In under 10 minutes, it had classified, ranked, and even written personalised summaries for every single candidate, ready for client submissions. By contrast, a previous client’s recruitment team required nine working days to complete the same task manually.

That experiment crystallised the problem Kris and RecruitmentX have been hearing from agency leaders for at least 2 years now:

“We know AI can save time, but what’s the hard-dollar ROI?”

After dozens of ROI chats with RecruitmentX clients, one painful admission surfaced again and again:

“We have no idea what screening and shortlisting really cost us in recruiter hours.”

So, Kris dusted off coding muscles he hadn’t used since 2006 and built a real-time ROI calculator. And he did a pretty good job.

This calculator enables any agency to see, within two minutes, how much money, time, and productivity they leave on the table each month.

See a free demo here. Run your numbers!

Where the money leaks out

Most recruitment teams still spend 40–60% of their entire week on repetitive admin tasks. The calculator looks at six friction points:

1. Resume screening
2. Stack-ranking & shortlisting
3. Candidate personalised summaries
4. Submissions to clients
5. Initial screening call scheduling
6. Reporting & hand-offs

Plug in headcount, CV volumes, time to give a quick yes/no and time to create a fully personalised shortlist to send to your client, and it kicks back monthly savings, ROI % and even the break-even number of resumes per month it takes to pay for the very modest RecruitmentX license.

Real numbers: a small labour-hire agency

That’s $7,200 every month back in their pocket, roughly one extra fee per recruiter, every quarter, without lifting BD activity.

What keeps Recruitment execs up at night?

Enterprise scenario: 250 recruiters (and beyond)

A global multi-sector group with 250 recruiters spread across several teams ran the same inputs. Result: ≈ $600,000 per month in reclaimed admin spend. Scale that to the 5,000 consultants across their global teams (employee count of just over 6,000 globally) and you’re suddenly talking $12-16M AUD per month back to the P&L

There are numerous examples in the public domain. This one from McDonald’s is astounding

Are you ready to run your numbers?

Want to see what your dollar ROI on AI would be?

Kris will run your ROI calculation live in two minutes, then provide a ten-minute demo, and finally offer you an unlimited free trial, allowing you to prove the ROI on real placements, real roles, and with real clients.

And more about Recruitment X here

Recruitment X is a purpose-built software for recruitment agencies. It is far better than 95% of others like it that I have seen, and I advise recruitment owners to contact Kris for a demo and more information.

“Let’s turn hours lost into value won.”

Blanche, the blog I wrote has a link to the Recruitment x website, the email address of the CEO, the LinkedIn profile of the CEO so you can DM him, and a link to a demo of the RX platform. I encourage you to follow one of those sources to get the information you need. I dont have it

What this shows is the gap between bulk plugin thinking and the kind of work we actually do. He is selling automation for volume, but that does not translate to retained executive search. Bulk tools cannot replicate quality of judgement. Our approach to AI is different. We use it to improve the processes around the work, not to replace the thinking itself. That gives us more time and headspace to focus on what matters most, such as the insight, the alignment, and the human judgement that clients are paying for. LLMs like GPT are not just faster admin assistants. They are an alien mind we are learning to work with. Used well, they allow experienced recruiters to operate at a higher level, combining great efficiency with sharper, more thoughtful outputs. This is not a sausage machine funnel. It is more like a drafting table or a thinking partner, a tool that lets you design and deliver better work, not just more of it.
