15 Stunning Recruitment Stats from 2020.

We all know it has been a cataclysmic year in recruitment.

But do you realise how massively Agency recruitment has been impacted?

And what about the recovery? Is it happening?

Which countries are doing best?

Here are 15 of the most jaw-dropping recruitment statistics from 2020. Taken from the recently released JobAdder report

You can access the full report here! (Free)

You can see the Report Webinar where we analyse the results here

  • In March this year, as COVID hit, job-orders lodged with Recruitment Agencies across Australia dropped 13% on the previous month. In April, they dropped another 46.% on the March figures.

  • In April this year, as COVID hit, job-orders lodged with Recruitment Agencies across New Zealand dropped 62 % on the previous month, which had already declined 8% on the prior month.

  • Job-orders in the UK fell 10% in February, then 21% in March, then a further 61% in April.

  • The massive ‘April job-order fall-off’ was least severe in the USA/Canada who, with a 38% decline on March figures, got off ‘lightly’ compared to the rest. Mind you, that fall was on top of a 12 % drop in March, and a 17% drop in February!

  • Permanent Placements made by recruitment and staffing firms across the USA and Canada fell 54% in April on the March numbers.

  • In the UK, Temporary/Contract placements in March 2020 were 19% up on the February numbers. In April they fell 55%.

  • Temp and Contract placements in the USA/Canada were up 92% in May compared to April numbers.

  • The ‘Time to Fill’ a Temp /Contract job in the USA/Canada is between 10 and 16 days. New Zealand, Australia and the UK all average below 10 days. (Why is this, I wonder?)

  • New Zealand recruiters take between 30 and 40 days to fill permanent roles. This is longer than the USA, UK and Australia, who are mostly in the 20 to 30-day band.

  • In New Zealand, recruiters take an average of 30 days to fill a permanent role, if the candidate comes from their database. If the candidate is sourced externally, it rises to 49 days.

  • In Australia, it takes agencies 5 days to fill a Temp/Contract job if the candidate is sourced from the database, a number that rises to 22 days if sourced externally. In the USA, those numbers are 12 (Database) and 31 (External source).

  • In September, 69 % of jobs filled by Australian recruitment agencies were Temp/ Contract. In NZ, that number was 75%. In the UK, 68%, and US/Canada 65%.

  • In September, permanent placements numbers made by UK recruitment agencies was 40% higher than in August.

  • In September, Temp/Contract placements made by US/Canada recruitment agencies was 36 % higher than in August.

  • ‘Time to Fill’ temp and contract roles has increased month on month in August and September in all countries surveyed. (Why are we getting slower at filling these roles?)
